TEACHER FEATURE TUESDAY: In honor of School Volunteer Week we are featuring a very special teacher in this week’s feature. Mrs. Teresa McClure. Teresa has returned to the building where she taught hundreds of kindergarten students to volunteer countless hours since retiring from education in 2024. Her dedication to students, staff, and the school district is unquestionable. We are beyond blessed to continue to have her expertise and wisdom shaping the next generation of teachers and students.
There are a lot of things that could be said about Teresa, but the following words from a few of the staff members that she volunteers with each week will speak best about the impact of her time and expertise.
“Teresa has been such a blessing to me this year! She always lets us know when she will be in for the day and comes to get things to prep for us. It’s not just the extra copies, laminating, and cutting though…it’s her positive attitude, willingness to help with anything, and catching up funny stories with us at lunch that I enjoy. Thank you for being such a big help to us, Teresa! We appreciate you!” - Samantha Carey, 1st grade teacher
“Teresa was my mentor my first year and I was so lucky to have her. She taught me so many things and comforted me when things were tough. I loved when she came to observe me because I knew we would get to chat after! I get so excited when I see her in the hallways still. She is always there to listen and offer advice or just have a fun conversation. Teresa is a problem solver and the most helpful friend. I have loved getting to know her and feel so lucky to have learned from such an amazing educator.” - Kami Fluty, 3rd grade teacher
“Each week, Teresa would text me personally and let me know that she was coming to volunteer in the Elementary and ask if there was anything specific she could help me with. As a retired teacher, she understands the amount of work that teachers put in each and every day, and just how helpful it is for her to volunteer to complete some of the most time consuming work we must do in order to be prepared to teach each day. We appreciate her so much for this!” - Meghan Sublett, Title I Reading Coordinator
“Mrs. McClure is the teacher we all hope we will someday be. She is kind, approachable, professional, and deeply caring. Before retirement, Mrs. McClure showed her dedication to our students. Now, Mrs. McClure shows her dedication to our school by serving Harrisburg teachers. She helps with any needs that arise on a weekly basis. There is not a teacher in our building that has not felt the generosity of Mrs. McClure this year! She is truly a gift.” - Rebecca Pekkarinen, 2nd grade teacher
“Teresa is one that helps keep everything running behind the scenes. She is always ready to copy, laminate, help with special projects, or lend a hand wherever she is needed. Her willingness to help in any way makes a bigger difference than she knows.” - Brianne Overfelt, Kindergarten teacher
“We are beyond grateful to still have Mrs. McClure in our building. She didn’t just teach lessons; she shaped people, and I’m so grateful to be one of them. It means so much to see that even in retirement, she continues to give her time and heart to our school community. The way she supports new teachers and stays involved speaks volumes about her dedication and character. She is still teaching—just in a different, equally meaningful way. Her influence continues to ripple outward in ways we hope make her proud.” - Sarah Earlywine, 5th grade teacher
Thank you Mrs. Teresa McClure for your continued commitment to share your time and expertise with the students and teachers of the Harrisburg School District. You are simply incredible! #BulldawgPride
